When nut busting is required
Gland nuts on heavy mining, marine, offshore, and industrial cylinders can require tens of thousands of Newton-metres to break loose. This is a function of thread corrosion, thread damage, galvanic bonding, and service duration — not improper installation.
Conventional impact or bar methods at these torque levels damage threads, flanges, and gland faces — converting a routine service job into a replacement job. The Santoo hydraulic reaction-arm station applies the required torque as a controlled, registered load with no shock loading on the cylinder body.
Industries where this is most frequently required
- Mining — dump truck, shovel, and longwall hydraulics with large-bore, heavy-wall cylinders
- Marine and offshore — deck crane, anchor winch, and steering ram assemblies
- Cement — kiln-door and crusher hydraulics with long service intervals
- Steel — rolling-mill cylinders with high operating temperatures causing differential expansion
